Wayne Dowden / Cow Mad
Wayne Dowden / Cow MadWhen does a very normal interest become an obsession?

'Gert Lush' Acrylic on canvas Framed in white pine 2009
canvas size 50cm x 40cm
SOLD
When I was a little boy I used to look forward to the summer because it meant that we would be visited by my Great Nanny Tonks and Great Grandad Bill. Grandad Bill would often take my two brothers and me for long walks in the surrounding countryside to see the 'moo cows' (Tibbs our cat would always come for the walk too). So from a young age I've loved walks in the countryside and I've loved moo cows, so not that odd then that as an adult and an artist I find myself painting cows.

The reason I ask the question 'when does an interest become an obession' is this.
Just last week after a day at the gallery I decided to walk home the scenic route (I had one of my cow paintings that I had been working on at the gallery under my arm) when I came across a field of lovely heifers by the foot of Glastonbury Tor. I take out my camera and take some pictures, I throw them some apples that I keep in my bag for such an occasion. Then I noticed that I was being watched by a lady who had stopped from her walk to gawp at me. I flushed with embarrassment as I realized not only did I have a cow painting at my feet as I photographed the cows but I was also wearing a cow t-shirt!
I am currently working on some new cow paintings. Please email your details to me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it if you would like me to be notify you when they are available.
