Rural Life Museum / Glastonbury
5th Sept - 11th Oct
If you are thinking of visiting the latest exhibition at the Rural Life Museum then my suggestion is take your wallet! The work on show is of the highest standard - I totally fell in love with the atmospheric etchings by Stella Murray- Whatley. The prices of the pieces on display are amazingly reasonable with unframed work from established artists from £65, but be warned I saw lots of red dots on my visit so get there quick!
Clive Palmer Solo Exhibition
Written by Dowden

Frameus Gallery / Wells
26th Sept - 24th October
This is an exhibition that I just can't wait for! I have been a huge fan of Clive Palmer the Wells based artist now for some time. His linocuts are not only techniqually amazing (the fine detail in the linocuts are first class) but his selection of subject matter and colours really speak to me.
This show focus' mainly on the beautiful scenery of Somerset and includes a selection of fun caricatures. If you fancy having your own caricature portrait you can as Palmer does take commissions. Do not miss this fantastic exhibition at the Frameus Gallery.

The Sadler Street Gallery in Wells has been showing David’s work with ever-increasing success for several years, and his sensitivity and skill in the use of watercolour, oils, acrylics and charcoal - all very different media - have been much appreciated. If you haven't heard of Kate Lynch then you must be dead! Lynch is easily one of the most exciting artists from the south west. We all have the book and love the atmospheric scenes conjured up by Lynch. Well make sure you see this exhibition at Back Swan Arts of those paintings and charcoal drawings which also has a 'sound tapestry' composed of the interviews from the book by Alastair Goolden as a backdrop to the images - genius!
Resurrection
Written by Dowden

Here and Now Gallery / Falmouth
1st - 31 August
Marc Messenger is one of the most uniquely creative artist that I've met, he sees things differently to the rest of us - when we see plastic bottles on the beach we tut but Messenger sees the raw material for fresh looking canvas'. When we see creepy mangled dolls we shiver but Messenger sees.... well God knows what Messenger sees but he resurrects them into something awesome! Make sure you catch his solo show at the Here and Now Gallery.

A Movement?
Written by Luke

So this the above term was originally introduced by Guardian journalist Robert Booth. Whether such a term is justified in defining a movement is obviously open to personal interpretation and at any rate won't be decided until the historians are in need of a useful reference handle.
Though undoubtedly with many hundreds/thousands of retail properties due to be vacated during 2009 there is a surplus of space. As a result both artists and councils are uniting to enrich what would otherwise be a ominous reminder of the current economic climates.
In response to this an online network has been established in an attempt to unite the various regional organisations that have formed in recent months. So please go across to the Empty Shops Network
